TOKYO WRITE YOUR LIFE WORKSHOP DETAILS
COORDINATOR AND WORKSHOP ASSISTANT:
Dates: September 19 – 23, 2016 (Mon – Fri)
Venue: Conference room at Cafe Renoir Ginza 6-chome (6-12-10 Ginza Chuo-ku)
(a few minutes’ walk from A3 exit of the Ginza station)
Mon-Fri AM class: 10:30 – 12:30; Mon-Fri PM class: 7:00 – 9:00
Participants can alternate AM and PM classes as necessary.
Optional September 24 (Saturday) field trip and open mike salon
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS:
—Anyone who can write and speak in English (due to instructor limitations)
—Experience not necessary
HOW THE WORKSHOP WORKS:
—Each class is a mix of instruction, writing exercises, and discussion, all centered on how to produce high-quality nonfiction writing.
—Over the course of the week, you will generate new material (through instructor-led exercises) or develop existing material (such as journal entries, beloved but abandoned projects, or miscellaneous notes that have been paper-clipped together and stuffed in the backs of drawers).
—Participants must be willing to read and respond to each other’s work.
—Participants should be willing to read short pieces between classes.

WHAT MIGHT YOU WRITE ABOUT:
—Thinking and living in another language.
—The relationship between food and home.
—Parenting across cultures.
—What it means to “fit in” or “stand out.”
—Teaching English to non-native speakers.
—Being “the only one” in your office or class or apartment complex.
—Life, Death, Birth, Taxes.
—Life with a spouse of another nationality/ethnicity/religion/race.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
A laptop or notebook
A willingness to experiment
JPY 33,000/person (No spot is reserved until paid in full.)
—There will be no refund for student cancellations after September 12.
—If workshop is canceled by instructor, students will receive full refunds.
